Hello,
I’m having troubles getting my favicon to show up on Google Search, and I’m looking to see if there are any developers that might be able to assist me in getting it to work. I’m following the Google guidelines, and I know my favicon is set up properly in WordPress, but I’m having isues with step 2, which is:
2. Add a <code dir=”ltr”><link> tag to the header of your home page with the following syntax:
<span class="tag"><link</span> <span class="atn">rel</span><span class="pun">=</span><span class="atv">"icon"</span> <span class="atn">href</span><span class="pun">=</span><span class="atv">"/path/to/favicon.ico"</span><span class="tag">> This is the url of the favicon: https://omegametroid.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/omegametroidfavicon.jpg </span>
I’m not sure how to do this myself unfortunately, so if anyone could assist, I’d be very grateful.

GeorgeOctober 30, 2023 at 11:00 pm #71909Hi George,
I have tried all of that, with one exception, I have the favicon set to 480×48 pixels since it was at 512×512 for forever and Google laid out they need a favicon in a multiple of 48×48 in order to show. I didn’t see the error listed in Inspect>Console, so I do not have that plugin downloaded, but I can try that if you notice anything different than I do.
Thank you!

Nothing has worked so far. I’ve tried everything except inserting that piece of HTML code into my header, which I don’t know how to do. That’s what I need help with. Are you able to provide assistance?

November 13, 2023 at 1:21 pm #71980Hi again,
I’ve explored bit more and found out that it’s recommended to use .ico file for this purpose, so please reupload the logo with but with .ico format and clear cache after this, it should solve the issue.
Also take into consideration that your site identity icon is 480×480 not 512×512 at least as mentioned in guidlines
Kind regards,
GeorgeNovember 14, 2023 at 4:58 am #71983Hi George,
I had mentioned earlier that Google requires favicons to be a multiple of 48×48, which 512×512 is not, but I was unable to load up any higher sizes than 512. If you have any suggestions, I would be appreciative!
Thank you,
Andy
November 14, 2023 at 5:10 am #71984Furthermore – I am unable to upload filetype .ico to WordPress, and I also can’t make any .ico file bigger than 256×256
