Hello,
<span style=”color: #374151; font-family: Söhne, ui-sans-serif, system-ui, -apple-system, ‘Segoe UI’, Roboto, Ubuntu, Cantarell, ‘Noto Sans’, sans-serif, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Arial, ‘Apple Color Emoji’, ‘Segoe UI Emoji’, ‘Segoe UI Symbol’, ‘Noto Color Emoji’; white-space-collapse: preserve;”>I’m having hard time with place holder social media links on my theme. Currently, I do not have any active social media accounts. However, Google is encountering issues indexing my site due to 404 errors related to social media links. There are 198 broken social media links identified. I’ve included a list of the specific error types I’m experiencing. Could someone assist me in resolving these issues to facilitate proper site indexing by Google?</span>

I understand the issue you’re facing with broken social media links, and I’m here to help. It seems like there might be a placeholder or a default value in the social media links, and it’s causing broken links in the site audit.
To resolve this, follow these steps:
1. Access Theme Settings:
Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard and go to Appearance -> Customize > Social Media and clear the URL field or just disable them.
2. Update Social Media Links:
In the social media or footer section, update the links for your social media accounts. Remove any placeholder or default values like “YOUR INSTAGRAM LINK,” “YOUR PINTEREST LINK,” etc. Replace them with your actual social media URLs.
3. Save Changes:
After updating the links, make sure to save the changes.
4. Clear Cache:
If you are using any caching plugins, clear the cache to ensure that the changes take effect.
5. Run a New Site Audit:
After making these changes, run a new site audit to check if the issue with broken links is resolved.
By updating the social media links in the theme settings, you should be able to eliminate these broken links. If the issue persists or if you have further questions, feel free to reach out.
Best Regards

We assume that the platform that you are checking for the broken links sends some invalid date, please make sure that the platform works in proper way, contact support or investigate that case in different ways.
We can take a look on our theme side if its still forcing disabled sections to the servers.
In order to assist we need to check your website from the back end, please install this 3rd party plugin “Temporary Login Without Password Plugin” which allows us to access your dashboard without sharing access details.
To better understand how the plugin works, please watch the video guide below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMu0e78OpJo

We investigated your website, as we assumed we couldn’t find any broken links related to the website or to the Social Media links themselves, we even ran a test on ahrefs: https://prnt.sc/vcDJrHfgR5Uz please see the screenshot.
The reason for the issue could be the cached data in sear engines, may be indexit pages were presented to the platforms with the broken links but now as we see there are no issues.
Kind Regards
January 10, 2024 at 8:52 pm #74506I have the same issue with Social Media links, they do not go to where they are supposed to. There are no strange signs or placeholder links. I have not change the info but I realised the links at the main bar no longer works, when clicking on them I return to my own webpage.
When exactly this happened I have no idea as I don´t normally check those links daily. I have also tried different browsers so that is not an issue. I have also cleared cookies and also.
Cache is emptied.

January 15, 2024 at 8:39 pm #74529Hi Carina,
We investigated the issue related to the broken links, unfortunately, we cant find any of them, you can check it here:https://ahrefs.com/broken-link-checker
Please see the screenshot: https://prnt.sc/QI8u_ISzL7e4
Regarding the issue with the social media links on your website, there is some minor issue that can be fixed, we created a custom CSS snippet for that, but for some reason when we are logged in we can’t access the Additional CSS section to paste this snippet or even theme editor to make changes there, seem that access to those sections are restricted for our user.
Here is the CSS snippet:
#top-bar {
z-index: 999999 !important;
}
Please paste this snippet to the mentioned locations on your website.
Kind Regards
January 15, 2024 at 10:49 pm #74534Hi and thanks for the css snippet. I have added it and no the social links are working. I did not have any broken links, the only issue as far as I could tell was the social media links that are now, thanks to the snippet, working.
You have administrator rights so you should have been able to access the theme section.
I should be able to revoke your access now?
Thanks for the assist.
