Website speed depends on several factors, first, is your server/hosting its speed and quality, after that is images, it’s too important to optimize your uploaded images for the web, of course, 3rd party plugins installed, extra scrips used.

If your new them displays fewer images and a much simpler layout it always outranks because it loads less content then ashe so your server handles this task much easier, just trust me to improve your server and caching, and all be fine then.
