    A distorted version of the menu screen loads first, then the preload screen. It’s fairly jarring. Is there a way to fix this? It only seems to happen on mobile browsers.

    Well, I figured it out after about 15 hours of trial and error. It seems that there was an issue where Jetpack was classifying the header CSS as “critical CSS” foe the ashe theme when optimizing the site. So, an un-stylized version of the header CSS was populating before the preloader. I resolved it by disabling Jetpack, reinstalling the theme, and then re-enabling Jetpack and then re-running the optimization process.
